FAQ's

What does an interior designer do?

Interior designers make indoor spaces functional, safe, and beautiful by determining space requirements and selecting essential and decorative items, such as colors, lighting, and materials. They must be able to draw, read, and edit blueprints.

Can I afford an interior designer?

Whether or not you can afford an interior designer is based on your budget and the scope of work. We have an array of products and services to try to accommodate varying budgets and skills.

How do you charge?

We offer many fee structures and will thoroughly discuss them prior to contract acceptance. Visit our blog to read more about them.

What design services do you offer?

We offer residential design services such as Full Service Design, Room Rejuvenations, E-Design and Construction Documents. Small commercial projects are accepted periodically throughout the year.  Any project involving Construction Documents will require additional services from a licensed Architect/Engineer, at the client's expense. They are responsible for verifying the accuracy of the plans as well as city permitting, licenses & inspections.

Visit our Services tab for a complete list.

How long will our project take?

The length of your project will depend on the scope of work, city planning, contractor availability and materials supply. We work within your timeframe to create a dedicated design plan by your requested deadline.

*HGTV is great to watch but is not an accurate depiction of timelines.  Full scale renovations generally take 3-6 months, sometimes longer.

What happens in the first meeting?

At our initial In-Person consultation, we chat with you about your wants, needs and budget. We tour the spaces and discuss preliminary design concepts, problem solving solutions and overall aesthetics.

Do you have a minimum project requirement?

We do not have minimum project requirements however we do assess the budget and scope of work before accepting jobs. For simple rejuvenating services, we prefer the client have a minimum budget of $7500 per room to include design fees. Full Service Design projects (renovations) should have a minimum budget of $80,000, excluding design fees. Though we prefer these minimum numbers, we carefully review the details of each project regardless of budget. Every job is unique and evaluated on a case by case basis. If we feel you would be better suited for a different experience, we will refer you to any one of our industry friends. We also can assist with DIY projects and E-Design services which typically have lower fees.

Can you incorporate my current pieces into the design?

YES! As long as the pieces are in good condition, we will absolutely incorporate them into your current design.

Will you photograph my space?

We do ask for consent at contract to take process photos and videos during the project. We provide a more professional photo shoot at project completion to publish in our portfolio. Personal identifying items will not be published.

How often will we communicate?

We communicate with contracted clients at a minimum of once per week however those communications are usually more frequent depending on where we are in the process and the service selected.

Do you travel?

We do travel outside of our direct service area. Travel expenses are an additional cost to the client.

Do you offer virtual services?

Yes, we have 3 E-design packages and offer virtual consultations with most of our other services.

What if I don't like the design?

On most projects we offer up to 3 revisions. You will be asked to sign off on the completed design concept prior to the first day of execution. After sign off, additional revisions will be billed an extra fee of $125 each.

Can I use my own contractor/architect?

Yes. We work with whatever trade professional you choose. If you do not have a company in mind, we will gladly get up to 3 bids from our list of partners. Should you use one of our referral partners, you the client, will enter into a separate contract with them. We do not manage project funds outside of budgets for furniture, fixtures and décor.

What forms of payment are accepted?

We accept all credit/debit cards and checks made payable to The Meme G Design Company.

Can you help me shop and nothing else?

While it is not the most efficient use of an interior designer, we can help with  just shopping on larger scale projects.

Do you have a catalog of materials that I can browse?

Yes! We carry flooring, cabinetry, countertops and tile samples.

Do your fees include everything and everyone needed for my project?

No. The fees quoted to you by TMGDC only apply to the services we provide. Depending on the scope of your project, you will need to hire a general contractor and their subcontractors, as well as architects, engineers and any other tradesperson required for the successful completion of your space.
